Consultant Cardiologist, Clinical Associate Professor
Professor Gregory Nelson is a founding Principal of the North Shore Cardiac Centre and a Consultant Cardiologist at both North Shore Private Hospital and Royal North Shore Hospital. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in Medicine at the University of Sydney’s Northern Clinical School.
Professor Nelson has been in cardiology practice since 1984 after returning from a 4 year Fellowship at the University of Leeds and the Leeds General Infirmary
Over his career, he has played a key role in advancing systems of care for acute myocardial infarction, including the development of field triage pathways for primary angioplasty and the establishment of the Regional Heart Attack Centre model at the co-located cardiac catheterisation laboratories of Royal North Shore Hospital and North Shore Private Hospital.
He has a strong commitment to clinical research, having authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications and served as Principal Investigator in over 20 multicentre randomised controlled trials at Royal North Shore Hospital.
Professor Nelson has previously held positions including Head of Department of Cardiology at Royal North Shore Hospital, Director of Interventional Cardiology , Expert Advisor in Cardiology for the NSW Medical Board and Deputy Chair of Heart Research Australia.
