Stress Echocardiogram

What is a stress echocardiogram?

A stress echocardiogram evaluates the function of the heart and screens for blocked coronary arteries which can cause a heart attack.

What to expect:

We perform the test in our consulting rooms with a technician, a sonographer and a doctor/nurse. We begin using ultrasound imaging to assess heart function at rest. You will then be asked to walk on a treadmill for around 10 minutes to measure how the heart performs under stress. Your blood pressure and ECG will be monitored throughout the test. Afterwards, additional ultrasound images are taken to further evaluate heart function. The test takes approximately 45 minutes.

What to bring:

  • Wear two-piece clothing that is comfortable and loose-fitting
  • A loose-fitting gown will be provided
  • Wear comfortable rubber soled shoes (ie: sneakers/sandshoes)
  • Bring a list of your medications
  • Bring a list of past medical procedures.
